Juneteenth is more than just a date it’s a powerful reminder of our history, our resilience, and our joy. On June 19, 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally received word that they were free. That moment sparked a legacy of celebration that we continue to honor today.

Here in Indianapolis, we celebrate Juneteenth in a big way. This year, join the community for a powerful weekend full of culture, connection, and fun for all ages.

This Saturday, Mt. Carmel and Praise are hosting Emancipation Juneteenth Celebration, and you don’t wanna miss it. It’s all about good vibes, powerful praise, and coming together to celebrate our freedom and culture. Live music during the Gospel Concert from 12–6 PM featuring Lamar Campbell and Spirit of Praise, Demetrius West and Jesus Promoters, Randy Weston and Judah Band and so many others. A great time with plenty of food, and fun for the whole family and activities including a Kids Zone, a Car Show with some of Indy’s coolest rides, and old-school domino and card games for a throwback.

Whether you’re coming to praise, kick it with your people, or just soak up the history, Mt. Carmel is the spot this weekend. It’s a day to celebrate us our story, our joy, and our community. Come out, bring your family, friends, and lawn chairs and let’s make this Juneteenth one to remember.

The Indy Juneteenth Festival kicks off Saturday at the Indiana State Fairgrounds South Lot starting at 12 PM. It’s packed with everything you need for a day of fun and meaning. You’ll find delicious food vendors serving up all your favorites, live performances that’ll have you dancing and singing along, and a marketplace filled with local Black-owned businesses showcasing their best. Got kids? No worries the Kids Zone has plenty of activities to keep the little ones busy and happy.

The Juneteenth Block Party is the place where community, culture, and celebration come alive for one unforgettable day. It’s your chance to kick back, vibe out, and honor our freedom with good food, great music, and even better company.

Get ready for music, bounce houses keeping the kids entertained, and local vendors serving up delicious eats and unique finds. With activities for all ages—from kids’ games to classic lawn games for the grown folks—there’s truly something for everyone to enjoy.
