Notre Dame Names First Black Valedictorian
Katie Washington is making history and her success cuts right through the mountains of negative doom-and-gloom stories you’ve read about Black students, higher education and achievement.
The 21-year-old from Gary, Ind., is Notre Dame University’s first African American Valedictorian. She has a 4.0 GPA.
“I am humbled,” said Washington, a biology major, to the Northwest Indiana Times. “I am in a mode of gratitude and thanksgiving right now.”
She has been accepted to five medical schools, including Harvard. She plans to attend Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
