Giants defeat Patriots in Super Bowl 46

(Indianapolis)  — The New York Giants defeated the New England Patriots 21-17 to win Super Bowl 46 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. It’s the second championship in five seasons for the Giants after defeating New England 17-14 in Super Bowl 42. The Giants have now won a total of four Super Bowls, with their only loss coming to the Ravens in Super Bowl 35. Eli Manning was named MVP of the game after throwing for 296 yards and a touchdown.

Governor Daniels eyeing another Super Bowl

(Indianapolis)  — Governor Mitch Daniels says Indianapolis and Indiana overall have much to be proud of and performed very well in the national spotlight. Super Bowl 46 was played last night between the New York Giants and New England Patriots at Lucas Oil Staidum in Indianapolis and events leading up to the game dominated the attention of Hoosiers and the entire country. Daniels says he had felt up until mid-week hosting the Super Bowl would be a great one-time event, but says he was overwhelmed by the positive comments he received over the past few weeks about how well Indianapolis did and thinks the city should host a future Super Bowl game.

State official found guilty of felony charges

(Noblesville)  — A new interim Secretary State has been named by Governor Mitch Daniels after the conviction of Charlie White. White was found guilty of voter fraud and five other felony charges after the jury delivered their verdict early Saturday morning.  Governor Daniels has appointed Jerry Bonnet to serve in the position for now. Democrats will be asking a judge this week to install their 2010 candidate, Vop Osili, as Secretary of State. White defeated Osili in 2010 by several hundred thousand votes. 

Police search for woman who abandoned dying relative

(Lawrenceburg)  —  Police have a warrant out for a southeastern Indiana woman accused of leaving her morbidly obese sister decomposing in a chair for weeks. A Dearborn County grand jury indicted Vickie Holdcraft, 45, last Friday on charges of reckless homicide, neglect and perjury. Prosecutors allege that Priscilla Frieberger, 61, died in October after spending the last three weeks of her life stuck in a brown cloth recliner in a home she shared with Holdcraft in the 600 block of Wilson Creek Drive. According to police reports, Frieberger’s skin was stuck to the chair, and her body had started decomposing before her sister called 911 on Oct. 2. She later died of pneumonia and a blood infection.

Police investigating fatal shooting

(Indianapolis)  — A man was shot and killed on the city’s westside late Sunday. IMPD found a 20-year-old man with gunshot wounds inside a residence in the 1600 block of Livingston around 11 p.m. Police said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have not released the name of the victim or any other details on what led to the shooting.
