Federal and state laws prohibit discrimination in the workplace.

  • Read all discrimination policies in your employee handbook.
  • Report the discriminatory behavior to a supervisor or the human resources department.
  • File a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).
  • Consult an attorney experienced in employment law.

REMEMBER:

An EEOC complaint must be brought within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory act. This period may be extended to 300 days if the charge is also covered by a state discrimination law.
