The Democratic majority on Indianapolis’ City-County Council is joining the outrage many in the city/county have over those large pay raises given to Mayor Greg Ballard’s staff.  Afternoons with Amos and PraiseIndy.com first revealed the pay raises late last month. The raises ranged from 6% to 22% and in dollar amount up to $22,000.  City-County Council Vice-President Brian Mahern appeared live with Amos and talked about the outrage over the unconscionable pay hikes.  Council Democrats vow that the Council must be notified on future pay hikes in advance and also indicated that the Council democrats will take a hard line on new spending in the upcoming 2013 budget.  Mahern also talked about the looming battle of the city/county’s 2013 budget.  Mahern says the budget deficit could reach $60 million and questions why these pay hikes were approved when city-county employees have gone without pay raises for several years and other departments of city/county government are cutting budgets.
