The Secret Service has joined the investigation after an effigy of President Barack Obama was found hanging from a highway bridge. GA Community Mourns Victim of Hit And Run
The family of Jermaine “Reeko” Butler celebrated his life with a candlelight vigil Saturday, May 31 in the Hudson Hill Community Park in Savannah, Georgia. The hope for the memorial is to not only remember the 42-year-old, but to also draw attention to the open hit and run case and attract any leads that could help police catch the perpetrator. The fatality, which occurred in April, is one of the most recent in the increasing number of pedestrian traffic-related deaths in Savannah. Read more.
Offensive Stereotypes Apparently Found In Hong Kong Student Textbooks
A blog started by a British expat living in Hong Kong has posted photos of local textbooks apparently featuring offensive stereotypes. Last week, activist and blogger Tom Grundy’s Hong Wrong blog ran a post titled”Hong Kong Textbook Tells You to ‘Know Your Place,’” highlighting photos of a primary school textbook lesson that uses stereotypes to help students match up people of different nationalities with a particular profession. Private Maya Angelou Memorial Service Will Be Livestreamed For The Public – Set For This Saturday
This Saturday, June 7th, a private memorial service will be held at Wake Forest University’s Wait Chapel onSaturday, June 7 at 10 am for Maya Angelou, who died last week. While it will be a private service for family and friends (due in part to limited seating capacity), Wake Forest will be live-streaming it online for the rest of the world to watch. Bring Back Our Girls Protests Banned In Nigerian Capital
Barely a week after telling the press that the 276 abducted girls had been found, the Nigerian police force has banned related protests in the Nigerian capital. It has been nearly two months since the girls were abducted. Police Commissioner Joseph Mbu said in a statement Monday that the protests, which have been happening around the Nigerian capital of Abuja, are “now posing a serious security threat.” Read more.
