In light of the suicidal death of actor Robin Williams, a lot of talk about depression and suicide has surfaced. It is a topic many do not want to talk about that many do not want to face. It needs to be dealt with because people are dealing with it every day.

If you are suffering or need help we have some numbers provided. Also if you are ministering to someone who needs help … below are some scriptures to share and meditate on.

Did you know that in Indiana:

• More than 800 people a year die by suicide– an average of 2 Hoosiers a day.

• Suicide is the 11th leading cause of death among Hoosiers of all ages; it is the 2nd leading cause of death among Hoosiers ages 15–34 years.

• More Hoosiers die by suicide than homicide.

• It is estimated that more than 4,000 Hoosiers will seek emergency care this year for injuries related to suicide attempt.

The Bible tells us murder is wrong… but what does it say about suicide? These Bible verses on suicide tell us that we should respect our bodies. We are God’s creations, we shouldn’t die before our time or forsake God’s will just because things are tough.

So even though we face challenges, always seek out light and truth. Don’t stray and consider dark things such as suicide. It is not in God’s will. Treat your body as a temple!

Exodus 20:13 You shall not kill.
1 Samuel 31:5 And when his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on his sword, and died with him.
Ecclesiastes 7:17 Be not over much wicked, neither be you foolish: why should you die before your time?
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
Mark 16:16 He that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.
John 10:28 And I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
John 12:25 He that loves his life shall lose it; and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal.
Acts 16:27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
1 Corinthians 3:16 Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.
1 Corinthians 6:20 For you are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Revelation 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.
