Indiana Religious Freedom Law Crisis

The economic fallout lingers from the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA). WISH TV is reporting the CEO of World Business Chicago visited Indy this week to meet with several local companies. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel happens to be chairman of that economic development agency. Indy Chamber CEO Michael Huber tells WISH-TV he doesn’t mind a little friendly competition. Huber says the chamber’s focusing on a new plan to keep and attract new businesses. Governor Mike Pence also says  he’s not concerned about other recent comments from Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner regarding taking business away from Indiana.

One business that is apparently not going anywhere is the northern Indiana pizzeria that entered the RFRA fray and received backlash and cash after saying they’d serve gays and lesbians in their restaurant but wouldn’t cater a same-sex wedding based on their religious beliefs. That backlash included threats. That cash was from a “Go Fund Me” page that was set up for them to raise money after the shop closed amid those threats. The owners of Memories Pizza have reopened and say the backlash has died down. The fundraising page has netted them more than $840,000. They say they plan to give some of the money to charity and use some to make improvements to their restaurant.
