Spring is a time to start over, get rid of the old and make room for the new. It can also be a season of great charity.

GRAMMY® award-winning solo artist Erica Campbell, 43, turned her closet cleaning project into a giving opportunity.

“SO happy I cleaned out my closet and the kids closets and got rid of a lot of things! I now have 12 large bags to give to a women’s homeless shelter!” she shared on Instagram.

By giving to the homeless in particular, the “Help” singer is assisting those who are caught up in an American crisis.

According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, in January 2014, there were 578, 424 people experiencing homelessness on any given night in the United States. That’s more than half a million people.

The singer’s choice to tackle her closet organizing project, where nice things were sitting unused, turned out to be a win-win.
