Nicki Minaj announced yesterday that she is going to executive produce and star in an ABC Family comedy series.  The series will be based on her families immigration from Trinidad, and will be set in New York around the early 90’s.  Minaj commented, “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

Minaj actually studied acting at Fiorello LaGuardia High School of Music & Art long before her music career existed.  She has also had a handful of credits in movies, such as the voice of Steffie in Ice Age: Continental Drift, and the roll of Lydia in The Other Woman.  She is currently filming for her role in Barbershop 3, which is due out April 2016.  There is no word yet on when Minaj’s ABC Family comedy will air.
