Kirk Franklin is currently on his “20 Years in One Night Tour,” and you may have even seen him when he came to Indy earlier this month. In a recent interview with Houston’s KTRK, Franklin discusses the reasoning for his controversial album title, Losing My Religion.
Franklin has sold millions of albums, and he hoped that the title would spark a conversation between those listening. Franklin said, “When you look at the decline of church attendance in America, or when you look at the decline of millennials that are not going to church in America, you want to have the conversation that a lot of times people are hit more with religion and rules and the systems than they are with the love of God and having a personal relationship with Christ.”
His goal to reach millennials may be a huge reason he decided to help work on Kanye West‘s latest album earlier this year, which also sparked a lot of controversy from fans.
Franklin has previously spoken on the topic of his album title choice, stating that “religion doesn’t guarantee relationship.” You can watch the short interview with Franklin here.
