Andrew Luck is now the highest paid player in NFL history, after he signed a 6-year, $140 million dollar deal with the Indianapolis Colts.

This news ins’t all that surprising considering Colts owner Jim Irsay has hinted at a high priced contract for Luck.  The contract guarantees $47 million up front, with an average of $23.3 million per season.

If you watched any of the Colts’ 2015 season, you know Luck was well, “un-lucky” due to his underwhelming performance and time consuming injuries.  Irsay said that last seasons performance was not part of the discussion when it came to the contract.

Irsay said in a statement, “This is an exciting day for the organization and Colts fans around the globe.”  He continued, “Andrew is the consummate professional, possesses extraordinary talent and is our leader on and off the field.  When you consider what this team has accomplished in four seasons with Andrew under center, you cannot help but be thrilled about the future.”

The Colts poked fun at Luck on twitter asking followers what Luck should buy first with his new fortune.  It has been noted several times in the media that Luck still uses a flip phone, and doesn’t feel the need to own a smart phone.
