A police-action shooting captured our attention on this cooler Tuesday in Indy.
Indianapolis Metro Police are investigating an incident on the city’s northeast side where they responded to a robbery call and an officer shot the homeowner mistaking him for the suspect. This happened around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday morning in the 3600 block of Foxtail Drive. That’s near 38th Street and German Church Road. A woman was coming home from work and encountered an armed car-jacker, according to WRTV-6. She tossed the keys and ran inside to tell her husband. In protective mode, he grabbed a gun and went outside. That’s when police arrived and shot him in the stomach. He’s in serious condition at an area hospital. No officer was injured and the suspect is still on the loose.
The two women charged in the death of a 10-month-old baby at a Speedway day care are pleading not guilty. Karen Tharpe and Jacqueline Murray are due back in court in October. Prosecutors say Tharpe strapped the baby into a car seat and walked out of the room. The baby strangled to death. Investigators say Murray owned the business and should’ve been more responsible. It was understaffed at the time of the incident.
Police in Fishers and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department are looking for a crook who broke into at least 60 cars over the weekend. The suspect got away with some guns from one of the vehicles. Investigators say they have video of one man breaking into a car. Police are telling people to take their valuables inside with them, and always lock it.
The school board of Indianapolis Public Schools meets tonight at the education center downtown at 6 p.m. That meeting is expected to last for an hour.
St. Vincent is opening four new emergency hospitals in the Indianapolis area. They’ll be built in Castleton, Noblesville, Avon and Plainfield, and will open next year. Each one will have seven outpatient beds and eight in-patient beds for those who require emergency, but not catastrophic services. Hospital officials say the new facilities are part of the health system’s plan to provide patient care closer to their homes.
Hoosiers who had a mortgage through HSBC may be eligible for part of a $470 million settlement. The Indiana Attorney General’s Office says an estimated 2,800 borrowers who lost their homes to foreclosure from January 2008 through December 2012 could potentially be reimbursed. The federal-state lawsuit centered on mortgage servicing and foreclosure abuses by HSBC during the financial crisis. A postcard will be mailed to anyone eligible to receive part of the settlement.
Governor Mike Pence is playing his role of Republican attack dog well. Pence was in Iowa Monday blasting Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton for unanswered questions about the Clinton Foundation. The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee out-on-the-stump says Mrs. Clinton and her husband need to shut down the foundation after the latest round of her released emails raised questions about pay-to-play activities that may have given donors access to the State Department.

Regardless of Pence’s attack speech, or Donald Trump shifting to the offence saying a special prosecutor should investigate Clinton because he calls the relationship between the State Department under Clinton and the Clinton Foundation a clear example of a racketeering operation…Clinton continues to lead Trump in this week’s NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll. She holds an eight-point lead over her Republican rival at 50-42. The margin is actually one point smaller than last week’s in the same survey among registered voters.

President Barack Obama heads to Louisiana today to visit flood-ravaged areas of the state. Obama says he’s eager to get a first-hand look at the disaster that has claimed at least 13 lives and damaged more than 60,000 homes. More than 100,000 residents there have filed for emergency assistance from FEMA.
Federal regulators are fining Wells Fargo Bank more than $3.5 million dollars for illegal student loan servicing. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said on Monday, the bank’s loan servicing practices “increased costs and unfairly penalized certain student loan borrowers.” The bureau said Wells Fargo hit borrowers with illegal fees and withheld information they needed to manage their loans. In addition to the fines, Wells Fargo will pay more than$400,000 to borrowers.

The end of a marriage is never funny and divorce is the new reality for funny-man/actor, Chris Rock. TMZ is reporting that he’s no longer a married man because his divorce from Malaak Rock was finalized after a New Jersey court appearance on Monday. The now-former couple wed in 1996 and separated in 2014. They’re the parents of two daughters, ages 12 and 14.

Well…the blood-letting (so to speak) has begun…
Sponsors are parting ways with U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte following his vandalism/lying incident in Rio. Speedo ended its relationship with the Olympian on Monday morning. The company said, “we cannot condone behavior that is counter to the values this brand has long stood for.” Lochte shortly after, lost a sponsorship deal also with Ralph Lauren–which immediately pulled his image from their website. Mattress company Airweave and Syneron Candela also quickly followed suit. The loss will cost the gold-medal winner more than a million dollars and observers are still waiting to see what penalty the International Olympic Committee will hand down to him, and possibly the other swimmers involved.
