Several students are being treated for injuries after two school buses collided here in the city Friday morning. This rear-end crash happened about 8:30 a.m. in Lawrence Township on the city’s northeast side in the area of North Shadeland Avenue and Fall Creek Road. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officials say numerous high school-aged students were onboard the crashed buses.
First responders tended to those who were injured at the scene and IMPD officials say none of the children had life-threatening injuries, but 25 students and the two drivers were taken to area hospitals for treatment. They were divided between Community North Hospital, Eskenazi, IU/Methodist, and St. Vincent E.86th St location. Another school bus was dispatched to the scene to take the remaining students to school.
School administrators have contacted the parents of those hurt. Multiple agencies responded to this accident and an investigation into how and why it happened is ongoing.
