Pepsi is being slammed by twitter users after the release of their new ad titled “Live For Now Moments Anthem” featuring Kendall Jenner.  The ad that’s being called “tone-deaf” by many depicts a crowd of people coming together in protest, ultimately ending in cheers when Jenner steps up to a police officer and hands him a Pepsi.

There are many things that can be pointed out as problematic in this ad campaign, but the biggest problem is that Pepsi is using imagery that is similar to the iconic “Taking A Stand In Baton Rouge” photo.  Many critics of the campaign pointed out that Pepsi was using white-washed imagery of the Black Lives Matters movement in order to profit.

The ad quickly became a trending topic on social media, and twitter users were not holding back.

A Pepsi spokesperson spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the backlash and stated, “This is a global ad that reflects people from different walks of life coming together in a spirit of harmony, and we think that’s an important message to convey.”
