“GMWA SERVES Atlanta 2017”

 

PR — Bishop Albert L. Jamison Sr., the Board of Directors, Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. and Team “GMWA Serves” are pleased to announce the launch of its 9th Annual Community Charity Outreach Day in Atlanta.

 

After an overwhelming success over the past eight years, “GMWA SERVES” continues with great expectation to help hundreds in need in Atlanta. 10 local charities and churches have been chosen to receive the support of 150 volunteer GMWA Ambassadors for what Atlanta Mayor Kassim Reed and local officials will honor as “GMWA Serves Atlanta Community Service Day.”

 

The Press Conference will be held in Atlanta on Friday, July 21, 2017, 4pm at the Hyatt Regency Hotel downtown Atlanta to announce the 50th Anniversary convention and the GMWA Serves project to the city.  Key attendees invited include the Hon. Mayor Kassim Reed, the Hon. John Lewis, Member of Congress, and the President and members of the Atlanta City Council.  In addition, GMWA Board of Directors, national leaders and Evelyn White, and Bishop Richard “Mr. Clean” White, head of Atlanta’s two GMWA Chapter Representatives, local Atlanta pastors, and gospel music industry leaders will attend. Some of the confirmed Atlanta charities include the Morehouse School of Medicine, American Heart Association, GAG Back to School Supplies, National Urban League, New Life Church, Dodd-Sterling UME, Foundation of Hope, Veterans & Community Outreach, Big Bethel AME, Apex Museum, and Antioch Baptist. Also, the Atlanta Chapter Nurses Guild and the Wellness Assessment Team will coordinate a health fair for all residents.

 

Volunteers will meet on Saturday July 22, 2017, 12 noon at Hyatt Regency for orientation to prepare for three hours of service as the designated local charities and churches bring their residents and those in need to be served. This years’ service will feature clothing, canned goods and back to school supplies to give-a-way. There will also be many singing choirs to perform for the local residents during the community service.

 

GMWA Serves Atlanta 2017 is dedicated to the legacies of the late gospel great GMWA Founder, Rev. James Cleveland and GMWA First Vice President, Rev. Charles Nicks. A musical tribute is planned for Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11pm at the GMWA nightly service. It will include some of the biggest names in gospel,  led by Dr. Steven Roberts, Elder Isadore Jackson, Min. Prince Yelder,  V. Michael McKay, A.  Jeffrey LaValley, Rev. Milton Biggham, Dorothy Norwood, Dottie Peoples, and the Original James Cleveland singers, to name a few.

 

The 50th Annual Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. (GMWA) convention founded by the Late Rev. James Cleveland in 1967, in Detroit, convenes at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, downtown Atlanta, with a week of events that will offer music classes, seminars, workshops, exhibits and musical showcases presented by the gospel industry, national GMWA chapters along with national gospel recording labels and artists. As an international faith organization, the Gospel Music Workshop of America, Inc. has over 75,000 members worldwide, with over 150 chapters in most every state in America and many cities around the world. There will be over 7,500 members from around the world to convene in Atlanta for the 50th Annual Convention which formally starts on Sunday, July 23, 2017.
