6. The Rathskeller
After the Rooftop Garden, this German restaurant’s Biergarten is probably the second-best kid-free fireworks-watching zone in the city. High-energy local dance band Zanna Doo will keep you from getting too comfortable in your chair. Ages 21 and older.

7. Fourth of July Ice Cream Social
Miss those good ol’ days — say, from about 1837 to 1901? Revisit the Victorian era during this event, which includes re-enactors and live music.

8. Indianapolis Indians
Watch America’s favorite pastime with a hot dog, cold beer and souvenir flag in hand — just the way the Founding Fathers would have wanted you to. A fireworks show follows the game, which features the Indians facing the Louisville Bats.

9. Freedom Blast
Downtown’s Fourth Fest, held annually at American Legion Mall, was canceled due to budget constraints. But the city’s 40th annual fireworks display will still ignite the sky. The show will be synchronized to music on WFBQ-FM (94.7) and make you go “ah” with its shells exploding 300 to 500 feet above the Regions Bank Tower.

10. CarmelFest
Reptile and freak shows, blues bands and Celtic singers, Frisbee-catching wonder dogs — the Rotary Club of Carmel presents dozens of events over two days. The St. Vincent Heart Center of Indiana Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Monday south of Carmel Drive on AAA Way. Indianapolis police officer and grand marshal Jason Fishburn will lead a pack of re-enactors from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and World Wars I and II. The weekend closes Monday with a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.
