The government is weighing in on whether the morning after emergency contraceptive should be sold to all buyers regardless of their age.

The manufacturer of Plan B One-Step has requested that the Food and Drug Administration make the pregnancy-prevention drug more readily available to women, according to the Washington Post.

Those in favor of the move, including some doctors, members of Congress and family planning advocates, argue that Plan B will enable women to prevent a greater number of unwanted pregnancies.

Opponents say they are concerned about young girls exposing themselves to high doses of the hormone Progesterone and becoming vulnerable to predatory men.

They also say that making the pill widely available could prevent parents from adequately monitoring their children’s behavior.
