The impasse between Republican Mayor Greg Ballard and the Democratic majority on Indianapolis’ City-County Council could lead to a severe budget crisis in January that could result in a number of county agencies drastically reducing mandated services to the public.  On Afternoons with Amos, Scott Miller, President of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce was asked  what the business community would do about the growing budget crisis.  Miller said the Chamber was looking at some solutions, but when directly asked if the Chamber would pressure Mayor Ballard to meet with Democratic leaders; something Ballard’s steadfastly refused to do for years; Miller demurred and repeatedly ducked the question.  Also in the interview, Miller along with Chamber’s Director of Public Policy Angela Smith Jones talked about the Chamber’s commitment to improving education and the recent election of reformers to the IPS School Board.  But Miller wouldn’t answer what the business community’s position would be if millions had to be spent on severance pay if the new IPS Board and Superintendent Dr. Eugene White were to part ways.
