Intoxicated Biker Loses Lawsuit Against The City
A man who was intoxicated when he struck a pothole on his bike, suffering serious injuries, has lost his lawsuit against the city.
Paul Komyatti Jr was riding his bicycle along Prospect Street when he went through a puddle, hitting a pothole underneath. Komyatti, who was not wearing helmet at the time, was knocked unconscious and suffered severe facial injuries.
He later sued the city, claiming it failed to maintain the street, along with Citizens Energy Group. The Indiana Court of Appeals ruled with the city, saying Komyatti way negligent because he was intoxicated at the time.
New ISTEP Problems Caused By Possible Hacking
More problems for ISTEP, only this time Hackers may be to blame for a delay testing across the state yesterday. CTB/McGraw-Hill, which administers the test, reported that their system experienced a 13-minute interruption just before 11 a.m.
IPS initially said they would delay testing Monday because of the downtime, but testing continued when the online system came back up.
Mother Pleads Guilty To Child Neglect
A mother is pleading guilty to neglect charges after her toddler was found wandering outside a Speedway motel last winter. Talisha Evans was sentenced Monday to one-and-a-half years behind bars, but won’t spend any time in prison because most of her sentence was suspended and she was given credit for time served.
Evans told police she left the 16-month-old at the motel because he was sleeping and she needed to pick up her other kids from the bus stop.
Mexico Murderer Deported From Indiana
A Mexican national who immigrated illegally to the United States and settled in Indiana has been deported to Mexico to face a homicide charge, officials said.
32 year old Efrain Rivera-Rico, who has been living in Seymour, Ind., is wanted on a 2001 arrest warrant in connection with the shooting death of a woman who was riding in a car he was driving and left her body in a ditch by the highway.
Rivera-Rico was flown to Texas and turned over to Mexican authorities May 10.
Man Exposed Himself to Woman in Store Parking Lot
A man was arrested after police say he exposed himself to a woman in a Lowe’s parking lot.
Witnesses told police Johnny Ray White was being very loud and had got into an altercation with two men, then A woman had told White to be quiet and leave. According to a police report, White took off his pants and pushed himself against the woman.
When police asked White about the incident he said, that “it was not his fault that his pants fell down.”
White was arrested for public intoxication, battery and public nudity.
Foundation Head Headed To Jail
The head of a former Indianapolis foundation will spend nearly five years in prison for fraud. Michael Russell pleaded guilty in January to taking one-point-seven-million-dollars from an investor and spending that money on jewelry, cars and clothing. The Russell Foundation was started in 2008 and was supposed to develop rail and ethanol-related economic ventures that benefited minority workers.
56th Street Scheduled To Reopen Fuel Spill
A portion of 56th Street on the city’s northwest side that was shut down after an oil pipeline leak last week was scheduled to reopen on This Morning.
The leak was discovered on the Marathon Petroleum Corp. pipeline last Thursday, spilling more than 21,000 gallons of diesel fuel near Guion Road. The road won’t officially open until after the morning rush hour commute.
Two Shot Near State Fairgrounds
Two people were hospitalized early Tuesday after being shot in a neighborhood near the State Fairgrounds. Dispatchers said the shooting happened just after midnight in the 4200 block of Crittenden Avenue.
Both unidentified victims were shot in the legs and their injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening. Police did not immediately release any information about what may have prompted the shooting. (Picture Courtesy: WRTV)
