Early Morning Shooting

A man has been fatally shot early this morning inside an apartment building on Indy’s east side.  Police detectives found a man dead in the entryway of the building in the 21-hundred block of Yorkshire Court near 21st and Post Road. The unidentified victim appeared to have been shot in the head. Police are asking anyone with info about this 1am shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.

13 Year-Old Girl Shoots Brother, Not A Drive-By

IMPD says an 11-year-old boy shot in the arm in an apparent drive-by was actually shot by his sister and the story was a cover-up. Police say they don’t believe the 13-year-old girl shot him deliberately. They’d told police on Saturday they heard a gunshot then saw a car speed away.

Carmel District Meeting

Teachers in Carmel are hoping for a district-wide meeting this afternoon to discuss the district’s latest contract offer.  Negotiations started more than a year ago.  A spokesman says the offer will likely be rejected because it would limit teachers’ salaries, which they say are already lower than other nearby school districts.

Indiana National Guardsman Found Dead

An Indianapolis guardsman serving in Afghanistan is dead.  The Indiana National Guard confirms that 43-year-old Staff Sergeant Randall Lane died Friday of a non-combat related illness. Lane was in Afghanistan serving as a motor transport operator providing security for convoy operations.

Church Thanks First Responders

Colonial Hills Baptist Church is thanking the first responders and volunteers who helped following the crash of its church bus—a crash that killed three church members and injured several others on Keystone Avenue on July 27th. On Sunday, the church organized a “Community Appreciation Service” to show their gratitude for all of the support they have received.

Governor Pence Returns to Indiana

Governor Mike Pence is back in Indiana after his trip to Japan to meet with business leaders.  It was his first jobs and economic development mission since becoming governor.  During his nine-day trip, Pence and members of a large Indiana delegation met with leaders of 20 businesses, including Toyota, who employs thousands of people across Indiana.

Indianapolis Colts Lose to Miami Dolphins

In sports…The Colts are now one-and-one for the season. They lost Sunday night 24-to-20 at home against the Miami Dolphins. This Sunday, the Colts take a roadtrip to the San Francisco 49ers.

During this same game… Colts guard Donald Thomas was injured.  Thomas may be out for the rest of the season because of a torn quad tendon.  Coach Chuck Pagano says Thomas will have to have surgery.
