Despite losing most of their territory to the Nigerian army, Boko Haram has continued to take their bombings to local markets, where 32 people were killed in their latest attack.
According to Al Jazeera, Red Cross and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the bombing happened on Tuesday at a fruit and vegetable market in the Nigerian city of Yola. As predicted, the market was filled with customers and livestock, leaving dozens injured and killed in the attack.
The bombings mirror the approach the Islamic extremist group has taken in the past few months. Yola was hit with a previous attack in October, when the group killed 27 people during an afternoon prayer in a mosque. A suicide bomber also took the lives of 28 people that same day in a mosque in the city of Maiduguri.
RT reports Boko Haram has surpassed the number of fatalities claimed by the Islamic State (formerly known as ISIS). The studies by Institute for Economics and Peace and the Global Terrorism Index revealed the Nigerian militants took the lives of 6,644 people compared to 6,073 lives lost at the hands of the Iraqi-Syrian group. The Taliban was marked third, killing 3,477 people last year.
In total, 32,658 were killed in terror attacks in 2014.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari believes the takedown of Boko Haram is closer than the public thinks. He appeared in Yola on Friday to honor soldiers who have fought against the group in the past six years.
