Good Day to you on ‘Throwback Thursday’…

Four teens are in jail this Thursday after metro police say they tried to rob a Burger King on Indy’s west side. They were thwarted by an armed firearms instructor who traded gunfire with them when he happened to be inside the restaurant at the time. IMPD officials say the teens are all suspected of committing nearly a dozen robberies across Central Indiana.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant Kendale Adams told reporters, attacks on public safety officials will not be tolerated. His comment came as the search continues for the person responsible for firing more than a dozen shots at the Northwest District Headquarters Tuesday night. A No one was injured, though there was one person inside the building at the time. Mayor Joe Hogsett said at an afternoon press conference that the incident is another sobering example of the dangers that IMPD officers face every time they put on their uniform to protect and serve the city. IMPD Chief Troy Riggs told the “Indianapolis Star” the headquarters could have been targeted because of IMPD’s crackdown on drug trafficking. If you have any info about this violent crime call Crime Stoppers, you can do so anonymously at 317-262-TIPS.

Congressman André Carson and his wife, Mariama, are divorcing. According to a statement released Wednesday, the Democrat from here in Indianapolis and his wife have separated and will be seeking a divorce. Carson said, “It is a very amicable and truly mutual decision. It is unfortunate for both of us but we continue to have the utmost respect for each other,” The Carson’s parent a ten-year-old daughter. Mrs. Carson is an educator and education executive. Congressman Carson is the grandson of late-Congresswoman Julia Carson and has represented Indiana’s 7th District of the U.S. House of Representatives since 2008 when he won a special election to replace his grandmother.

Recently a lot of AMBER Alerts have been called on and off in Indiana. Here’s an update on one of them. The Greenwood mother at the center of one of them will not be charged. The Johnson County Prosecutor announced Wednesday there was no evidence that Morgan Negri had criminal intent. An AMBER Alert was issued last week after Negri picked her daughter up from school and took her to a dentist appointment. Police initially thought the child had been abducted, but Negri says it was a custody misunderstanding.

Don Pablo’s is permanently closing its Central Indiana restaurants.  According to The Wall Street Journal, the company filed for bankruptcy this week, citing a decreased interest in casual dining and an increase in competition from “fast casual” Mexican brands. Don Pablo’s had four locations in Indianapolis and Carmel. The Lafayette location remains open.

There is increased interest in furniture and home wares though. IKEA is getting closer to breaking ground on its store in Fishers. The date has been set for October 18. Construction of the new facility is expected to be a job creator. Expect 500 jobs on the project. Then, on the operations front, about 250 employees will be hired to work at the store when it opens next fall.

Vote, it’s that simple. That’s the message from Evangelist Franklin Graham who told an Indianapolis crowd gathered at the statehouse Wednesday that he wouln’t tell them who to vote for. But he was telling them to vote. Graham told them from the steps, ‘shame on you if you don’t vote.’

Officials in the Caribbean say Hurricane Matthew has killed 15 people so far. Victims have been reported in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A United Nations official in Haiti says the hurricane has displaced thousands in the island country, and called it the largest humanitarian event since the massive earthquake of 2010. The UN says over 300,000 people are in shelters across Haiti.

The presidential candidates are canceling campaign events as people in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas turn their attention to storm preparations and evacuations. Republican nominee Donald Trump tweeted that he’s praying for everyone in Florida. Politico reports Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s campaign is advertising on the Weather Channel over the next few days.  Viewership across the country is likely to surge as people tune in for storm coverage. More on Hurricane Matthew and the evacuation efforts are below in “Weather.”

The list of potential buyers for Twitter is getting a lot shorter.  Sources say Disney is no longer pursuing the social media platform.   Earlier yesterday, tech news site Recode reported Google and Apple aren’t planning to make a bid. That now leaves Salesforce—a cloud computing company as the only potential buyer. Twitter shares dipped over nine-percent in after-hours trading following the report.  Twitter hasn’t publicly confirmed that it’s looking for a buyer.

More than 200 students at a Christian school had the chance to meet Donald Trump during his visit to Southern Nevada. The Republican presidential nominee stopped by the International Christian Academy near Summerlin Wednesday morning. USA Today reported Trump received a mixed reaction when he entered one of the classrooms. One child kept repeating, “I’m nervous,” while another student wanted to touch Trump’s hair “because it’s orange.”

The Huffington Post has released a video of an African-American inmate who died in an Arkansas jail after complaining that he couldn’t breathe. The video from last year shows 35-year-old Michael Sabbie shouting, “I can’t breathe” as he’s being subdued and pepper-sprayed by five officers. Sabbie was found dead in his jail cell the following morning. The Department of Justice has investigated the incident that occurred in July of 2015 and has declined to prosecute.

TONIGHT: The Pacers continue exhibition play as they host the Chicago Bulls at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indiana is 1-and-0 this preseason after beating the Pelicans Tuesday. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. Eastern.

On Sunday, the Colts hope for a bounce-back win as they host the Chicago Bears. The Colts sit at 1-and-3 after losing to the Jaguars in London. The Bears earned their first win last week by beating Detroit. Frank Gore and Donte Moncrief are two of seven Colts who missed practiced on Wednesday.

Weather…

We remain on Hurricane Matthew watch. Evacuations are underway and the storm is already a beast–packing 125 mile per hour winds. It’s power is increasing as it heads to the U.S. mainland after massive destruction in the Caribbean. It’s expected to hit Florida as a Category 4 hurricane. For a little perspective, Katrina was a Category 3 when it hit Louisiana years ago. Time is running out for evacuations in Florida as the governor has activated the National Guard and they are under a State of Emergency. The State of Emergency order also stands with evacuations underway in the states of South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia.

Here in Indy, expect plenty of sunshine and a high of 83 degrees.
