With our social media-obsessed world, it’s super easy for narcissists all over the world to put their self-
love on display. Unfortunately, boastfulness has, like an infectious disease, spread through the
church.
That’s why I’ve compiled a short list of scriptures to keep us humble.
1. Philippians 3:3 (NIV)- “For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit,
who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh.”
Just as the Jews had to realize that circumcision and other works of their hands were no longer
required for them to receive God’s mercy, you have to be aware that you are not righteous due
to the works you perform. Jesus is the only way into the Kingdom of Heaven; without belief in
Him, you are lost. Keeping that in mind will prevent arrogance and self-righteousness from
taking over.
2. 2 Corinthians 10:18 (NIV)- “But, ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.’ For it is not the
one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends.”
Realize that whatever you do, you do unto the Lord (Colossians 3:17), and that the awesome
things you do are a result of the power working within you, which is the power of the Holy Spirit.
Without Him you are nothing.
3. Romans 12:3 (NLT)- “Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each
of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation
of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.”
