Well, men want food and women want jewelry and the average person in a relationship expects to spend $226, according to a new national survey by retailmenot.com, a coupon site.

Men will spend an average of $287 while women will spend $164.
Not surprisingly, more than 35% of people in relationships would treat their partners to a luxury vacation if money was no object.
• 28% of men would like to receive a meal, compared with 13% of women.
• 19% of men would like to receive tickets to an event, compared with 7% of women.
• 24% of women would prefer jewelry, compared to 15% of men who would want bling.
• 14% of women would prefer to receive a floral tribute, compared to 6% of the men.
For the survey, 1,000 people over age 18 were interviewed between Jan. 24-30
