Katharine McPhee is denying reports that she has plans to exit her NBC show “Smash.”  Following the show’s downgrade from Tuesday to Saturday nights, the future of the “Idol” alum’s career could be at risk and the “New York Daily News” reported that she could be looking to jump ship.  A source told the paper that Katharine is opting out of interviews concerning “Smash” and has realized that the show, now in its second season, was “a failure.”  Her rep is saying that the reports are false, and the singer and actress, who plays the show’s star, has no plans to leave it before the season is over.  NBC has yet to make any announcements about the show’s fate, but the low ratings and timeslot shakeup have been seen as something of a death sentence.

Reports of McPhee’s desire to move on come shortly after her co-star Debra Messing was announced as the lead in a currently untitled CBS comedy pilot.
