A Pike Township teaching assistant has been fired after he was arrested on charges he sexually abused a 13-year-old boy with special needs.

Police said 27 year old John White, who worked part-timeat at Lincoln Middle School, faces two preliminary charges of child molestation.

A woman reached out to police, saying her son had been repeatedly abused by White.

The boy slept over at White’s home at least 10 times, during which White would perform sex acts on the boy.

White admitted that the boy slept over and that he bought him electronics, but he denied any sexual contact, police said.

White is the foster father of two teenage boys who have removed them from the home.

 

IPS To Cut Nearly 60 Jobs

More than 50 people at Indianapolis Public Schools may be heading to the unemployment line.  At their meeting tonight, the school board will consider laying off 59 people in order to reduce a 30-million-dollar budget deficit.

A vote on the layoffs is expected to take place April 23rd.

 

Two Men in Hospital Following Monday Explosion

Two people are in serious condition following an explosion at an apartment in Wayne Township.  Police say the men were using electrostatic paint to resurface a kitchen countertop when something ignited the fumes, blowing the front door off of the apartment.

They were taken to the burn unit at Wishard Memorial Hospital.

 

One Person Shot in Home Invasion

Police say one person was shot in the leg during an apparent attempted robbery at a home on the city’s northeast side.

The shooting was reported just before 5 yesterday morning near 75th Street and Hague Road. A person inside the home told police that two men came to the door claiming to be police officers. They then broke the front door and forced their way in. The victim sprayed the men with pepper spray before they shot him in the leg.

The victim called 911 and was taken into surgery at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
