In a move that will no doubt disappoint countless male viewers, Faith Hill announced Monday morning that she is ending her six-year run as the sexy opening number for NBC’s Sunday Night Football.

“Amazing 2 have been part of SNF–an honor. I’ve just let everyone there know it’s time 2 let someone else rock the open,” the country superstar tweeted. “Difficult decision. Kinda emotional. Love all u guys at SNF–I’ll b watching!!!”

No official reason has been given yet as to why Hill decided to step down from performing the opening theme–a rockin’ jam set to the tune of Joan Jett’s hit “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” and featuring weekly custom cuts of the two teams facing off that particular night. Oh, and of course, also featuring Hill herself in outfits eye-catching enough to cause pass interference.

It seems that Hill made the decision on her own. SNF Producer Fred Gaudelli tweeted in homage: “Great love and appreciation to @FaithHill for six great years of rocking the SNF open.”

Neither Gaudelli nor NBC has announced a replacement as of posting time.

Fan reaction on Twitter was predictably glum at the news; however, some users rose to the occasion with amusing jokes. “Faith Hill announces she’s no longer doing Sunday Night Football open, topping Kobe Bryant as most tragic loss of legs in sports this year,” quipped one Tweeter.

Hill and her husband Tim McGraw should certainly continue watching Sunday Night Football–Hill’s spoken many times about her family’s love for the sport, and even wrote an intro to NBC’s 2008 Sunday Night Football Cookbook. “On Sunday nights during football season, dinner has to be planned around the game,” she noted.
