Due to the extreme cold, several communities have or will be opening warming centers.
Here is a list:
AKRON — A warming center is open to the public at Haven of Rest Ministries, located at 175 E. Market Street in downtown Akron. The center is open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Guests are welcomed for warm shelter and hot coffee. Guests may also sign up for a meal and/or shelter for the night. The Mission’s goal is to assist those in need and see that everyone has a warm place to stay.

CLEVELAND — Residents seeking relief from the predicted frigid temperatures may visit the centers for shelter, warmth and wash facilities. The recreation centers that will be open 24 hours are:
- Collinwood Recreation Center located at 16300 Lakeshore Avenue
- Zelma George Recreation Center located at 3155 Marin L. King Blvd
- Thurgood Marshall Recreation Center located 8611 Hough Avenue
- Michael Zone Recreation Center located at 6301 Lorain Avenue
For more information, residents may call their neighborhood recreation center or call 664-2561. Residents who require heating assistance outside of normal recreation center operation hours and who are unable to get to a warming center are encouraged to call 2-1-1.
