An alarming new study says black children are taking their own lives at a higher rate than other children. A new study says the suicide rate among black children ages five to eleven has nearly doubled in the past 20 years. Researchers at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio studied suicide rates for children under 12 from 1993 to 2012. The study published Monday says the suicide rate among black children rose substantially in that period, while the rate for white children dropped slightly. The “New York Times“ says it’s the first time a national study found a higher suicide rate for blacks than for whites of any age group.
