Shirley Caesar, who is a Grammy Award winning artist and whose sermon-song “Hold My Mule” went viral a few weeks ago, is now suing a Georgia rapper over a remix video of her song.

The song was actually released back in 1988 but is currently number one on the charts.

The lawsuit, filed this week in Gwinnett County, accuses Keenan Webb – aka DJ Suede – of releasing an unauthorized version.
Caesar’s attorney, James Walker, said the only official version authorized by her has been performed by Snoop Dogg.

Walker said Suede’s video of the song includes references to alcohol, which is not in line with Shirley Caesar’s pastoral image.
