IMPD Chief Rick Hite (left) Ass’t Chief Lloyd Crowe Appearing On Indy’s Black Stations In Wake Of Fatal Police Shooting

The Afternoons with Amos PODCAST For Tuesday, August 11, 2015. (Chief Hite’s Interview Starts At 1:23:23 Mark On PODCAST Media Player). Many, many questions have been raised over the Sunday, August 9th fatal police action shooting of Andre Green, a 15-year-old Black man during a traffic stop with IMPD at a dead end on North Butler Avenue at 32nd Street. Compounding the situation there was no police video – dashcams or body cams. No videos taken on cell phones by civilian witnesses; in fact few witnesses at all. Meanwhile a broad cross section of Black leaders are calling for full funding of body cams for IMPD in Mayor Greg Ballard’s upcoming budget.  In the wake of the many questions and with some leaders fearing tensions are rising in the city with the rash of police action shootings in the city this year, some fatal, IMPD Chief Rick Hite appeared live on Afternoons with Amos to talk about the incident, provide as much information as possible given that the case remains an on going investigation, and to address some of the community’s concerns. Chief Hite was joined by Assistant Chief Lloyd Crowe who helped explain the timeline of the incident which began with a carjacking near the Meadows, then IMPD officers following (but not in high speed pursuit of the carjacked vehicle. Shots fired from outside the vehicle in a neighborhood on the edge of Washington Park, nearly two miles from where the fatal exchange occurred with three IMPD officers, two males, one female; two whites, one Black. After Chief Hite’s Afternoons with Amos interview, the Chief appeared live on sister stations WTLC 106.7FM and Hot96.3FM to communicate with a wide range of the community.

(Interview with DPW’s Scott Manning On Stormwater Fee Changes Starts At 53:27 Mark). It’s called a Stormwater Fee. It pays for Indy to improve its ability to deal with storm water, like when it rains a lot in a short period of time and streets get flooded. It’s a fee on property tax bills. And how the fee is charged has changed. Scott Manning of DPW appeared on Afternoons with Amos to explain. The charges will be based on the amount of “imperious surface” your property has. Roofs, driveways and other surfaces that don’t absorb water.  Property owners can learn what their new Stormwater Fee will be by going to http://www.indy.gov/stormwater.
